McXI™-II is a new generation product that offers for the first time to non-specialist users a turn key instrument that
permits the visualization of the internal structure of an intact organic cell, with resolution down to the level of a small
virus.
This is made possible by a compact soft X-ray source that produces high spectral brightness in the 2.3 – 4.4 nm region, and
high flux with small beam divergence. This source is coupled to a set of diffractive optics to offer a resolution beyond 30nm for
a full field transmission soft X-ray microscope.
McXI™-II brings along many advantages, for biology applications, over conventional charge particle microscopes, allowing ultimately the smallest features of a living cell to be examined. It is an innovative automated soft X-ray imaging tool with powerful capabilities and has a diverse range of applications to important scientific problems in the environmental, materials and life sciences.
